How to play Snake

Read the aim of Snake, then make your first move. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Use the example below to understand a decision. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Keep the aim in sight

Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Notice how the game responds to your input.

Step by step

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Controls

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Check any mode label before starting.

A useful example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Keep the controls nearby.

Watch out for this

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Compare the situation with the worked example. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
